Pushkar Fair 2009

Pushkar Camel Fair - During the exuberant Pushkar Fair on Kartik Poornima (Full Moon night) in October - November at Pushkar, the town is the place for performing special religious ceremonies and a holy bath along with the festivities.

For days the fair ground reverberates with festivities with people shopping for hand printed clothes, bangles, votive offerings, toys, camel-saddles, glass beads, leather goods, inlaid brassware and other sundry household items in hundreds of gaily canopied booths. In conjunction with the religious fair, a Cattle Fair is also organized. Camels, horses, donkeys and bullocks are traded in the hundreds. The cattle races draw huge attendance. Come dusk, the rich strains of haunting music are carried across the desert sands and the merrymaking continues deep into the night - the entire atmosphere is electric and full of fun.
