Prosecution set to open case against care worker
Today the prosecution is set to open their case against Stephen Nicholson who is charged with the rape and murder of Lucy McHugh.
At the start of the trial, which officially began on Monday, Nicholson, pleaded not guilty to three charges of rape against Lucy when she was 12 years old and two charges of sexual activity with a child when she was aged 13.
The 25-year-old had previously pleaded not guilty to her murder. A jury of 12 members of the public has been selected from a panel of 50.
At Winchester Crown Court, William Moseley QC is set to outline the case against Nicholson, who has denied all the charges.
The body of 13-year-old Lucy McHugh was found stabbed to death on the morning of July 26 2018.
